Download .RDL Report Definition Using .NET or Jscript from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Server

This illustration shows how to retrieve or download the .rdl or report definition file for a CRM SSRS report in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 in code with DownloadReportDefinitionRequest.   This example will be given in Jscript (SOAP) and in C# (.NET).

Important Note:  In jscript there may be additional security concerns you must work around if trying to save the report definition file to the client disk.

Ok, here is what the code looks like!
First in C#:

// Query for an an existing report: Account Overview. This is a default report in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
QueryByAttribute reportQuery = new QueryByAttribute(Report.EntityLogicalName);
reportQuery.AddAttributeValue("name", "Account Overview");
reportQuery.ColumnSet = new ColumnSet("reportid");

// Get the report.
EntityCollection retrieveReports = service.RetrieveMultiple(reportQuery);

// Convert retrieved Entity to a report
Report retrievedReport = (Report)retrieveReports.Entities[0];
Console.WriteLine("Retrieved the 'Account Overview' report.");

// Use the Download Report Definition message.
DownloadReportDefinitionRequest rdlRequest = new DownloadReportDefinitionRequest
{
    ReportId = retrievedReport.ReportId.Value
};

DownloadReportDefinitionResponse rdlResponse = (DownloadReportDefinitionResponse)service.Execute(rdlRequest);

Now here is the Jscript nicely formatted by the CRM 2011 SOAP formatter. Available at: http://crm2011soap.codeplex.com/

Now in Jscript

This example is asynchronous, if you want to learn how to make JScript SOAP calls synchronously please visit this posthttp://mileyja.blogspot.com/2011/07/using-jscript-to-access-soap-web.html

};

To understand how to parse the response please review my post on using the DOM parser.
Now you can call the SDK.SAMPLES.DownloadReportDefinitionRequest  function from your form jscript handler.
Thats all there is to it!

I hope this helps!
